Santa Cruz Collective is a living arts hub based in the historic Santa Cruz Theater, directed by producer and cultural strategist Ryan Salinas. Our mission is to preserve and celebrate Austin’s Chicano, Latinx, Indigenous, and immigrant creative legacies through bilingual, community-rooted programming that bridges generations and invites everyone to the table.
At the heart of the Collective is Barrio Rhythms, a gathering of musicians, dancers, storytellers, and visual artists who share the pulse of their cultures through performance and collaboration. Barrio Rhythms offers paid opportunities for artists of all backgrounds, creating space for mentorship, experimentation, and joy. Each event invites Austin to experience culture not as something archived, but as something alive, evolving, and deeply connected to place.
Through concerts, residencies, and public programs, Santa Cruz Collective champions equity, accessibility, and belonging in the arts. We exist to ensure that Austin’s creative rhythm stays rooted in its barrios, sustained by its people, and open to every voice that calls this city home.

A Home for Austin’s Latinx Creative Future
Santa Cruz Collective is a multidisciplinary arts organization and cultural hub originally based at the historic Santa Cruz Theater, now Rozco Comedy Club, on East Austin’s iconic 7th Street. Directed by producer and cultural strategist Ryan Salinas, the Collective preserves, uplifts, and reimagines Austin’s Chicano, Latinx, Indigenous, and immigrant artistic communities through bilingual and accessible programming that centers heritage, innovation, and inclusion.
As the creative force behind Barrio Rhythms, Santa Cruz Collective curates and produces bilingual and Spanish-language festivals, concerts, and performances that celebrate cultural identity while removing barriers to participation. Our programs create equitable, paid opportunities for artists across generations, including unhoused musicians, refugees, Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing performers, blind artists, and dancers with mobility differences.
Barrio Rhythms has brought vibrant cultural programming to Austin’s most iconic venues and neighborhoods, amplifying the voices of artists historically excluded from mainstream arts programming. Together, Santa Cruz Collective and Barrio Rhythms strengthen Austin’s identity as a global center for Latinx and Indigenous artistic expression.
Cultural and Economic Impact
• Over a decade of public arts programming rooted in equity and cultural preservation
• Hundreds of performances and workshops featuring Latinx and Indigenous guest artists from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and beyond
• Paid opportunities for more than 400 local and international artists supporting Austin’s creative economy
• Collaborations between cultural elders and emerging artists preserving oral traditions and Indigenous storytelling
• Mentorship and educational programs ensuring younger generations maintain a connection to their artistic heritage
Commitment to Accessibility and Inclusion
Santa Cruz Collective and Barrio Rhythms model accessibility and cultural equity, ensuring that the arts remain open to everyone.
• Bilingual and Spanish-language events remove language barriers and foster artistic exchange
• ASL interpretation and audio description make performances accessible for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing audiences
• Sensory-friendly accommodations and movement-inclusive spaces allow artists and audiences of all abilities to participate
• Free and sliding-scale ticket options remove economic barriers to experiencing the arts
A Leader in Artist-Driven Advocacy and Community Impact
The Collective’s work extends beyond performance. Ryan Salinas and the Santa Cruz team advocate for artist rights, fair pay, and community-led cultural policy.
Through Barrio Rhythms, they:
• Champion equitable funding and visibility for Latinx and Indigenous artists
• Oppose cultural erasure and displacement of Austin’s historic neighborhoods
• Connect businesses, artists, and audiences through partnerships that sustain Austin’s creative ecosystem
• Ensure public arts programs uplift the voices of those historically excluded from Austin’s cultural economy
Preserving Austin’s Cultural Legacy for Future Generations
Santa Cruz Collective is more than an arts organization. It is a movement for justice, artistic excellence, and the preservation of Austin’s Latinx and Indigenous heritage.
By fostering a thriving ecosystem of immigrant, BIPOC, and disabled artists, Ryan Salinas and the Collective ensure that future generations inherit an arts scene that is inclusive, equitable, and artist-centered.
Why This Matters
As gentrification and economic pressure continue to reshape East Austin’s creative core, Santa Cruz Collective and Barrio Rhythms stand as models for cultural equity and community-driven leadership.
This work is redefining who has access to create, perform, and thrive in Austin’s arts community, ensuring that every artist, regardless of background, has a platform to share their story and their rhythm.
