The TheorisTs

Multi-Disciplinary & Dance

The Theorists is a collective of artist-citizens led by Amy Morrow that uses science, math, and embodied research to create homegrown art. Since 2015, they have collaborated with over 100 international artists, hosting residencies, workshops, and their annual Theorist Fest (now REST Fest). Their work merges dance with anthropology, technology, and activism, drawing from practices like Deborah Hay’s legacy, Idan Sharabi’s choreographic research, Maleek Washington’s multidisciplinary storytelling, and Fighting Monkey’s movement philosophy. Together, they create performances and archives that connect local and global communities through experimental optimism.

Multi-Disciplanry & Dance

The Performance Club operates on the belief that live performance is a catalyst for audiences and performers.  By providing time for audiences to witness a live performance and immediately process the performance individually, in their own way—through writing, drawing, dancing, resting, meditating, etc.—unforeseen insights arise.  The Performance Club is not about critique, and no one imposes their exploration on anyone else.  It is a community experiment that provides audiences and performers the opportunity to notice how they influence and inspire one another.

Jason Akira Somma is a New York City–based interdisciplinary visual artist acclaimed for “defying categorization” (Rolex Arts Initiative). In 2008, he became the first American awarded the Rolex Arts Initiative for Dance/Visual Art, working under the mentorship of Jiri Kylián. His practice merges technology, performance, science, and kinesthetics into what he calls “Aesthetic Singularity.” Somma’s work has been presented internationally at venues such as the Guggenheim, MoMA, the New Museum, CCA Glasgow, and the Aichi Triennale. His groundbreaking show Phosphene Variations introduced the world’s first free-floating interactive holographic film installation, featuring icons like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Robert Wilson.
