The Austin Latin Dance Cultural Heritage Project, led by Irakli Chachua and fiscally sponsored by Fisterra Projects, aims to celebrate, preserve, and promote the cultural heritage of Cuban Salsa and Dominican Republic Bachata.

These vibrant dance forms, deeply rooted in the African rhythms and movements of the Yoruba, Kongo, and Arará tribes, as well as the indigenous Taíno traditions, are complemented by Spanish colonial influences. The project includes the first Annual Austin Latin Dance Festival in April 2025, enhancements to the "Where Can We Dance" website, and expanded community programming to provide high-quality dance instruction and foster a diverse, engaged dance community in Austin. The project team includes dedicated individuals like Fanny Gonzales, a resilient Venezuelan immigrant and founder of Corazon Dance Studio, Raymond Mendoza, a reliable Filipino accountant ensuring financial stability, and Dania Salinas, founder of Infusion Dance Kids, who uses dance to help children grow physically, socially, and emotionally. Culinary experiences will be enriched by Josue Alberto, a talented Colombian chef. Kayur Patel will lead arts education outreach programs, bringing Bachata education to high school students throughout AISD and Texas Can Academy.

Together, these efforts aim to document and elevate the significance of Cuban Salsa and Dominican Bachata, ensuring their rich heritage thrives in contemporary culture.
