Rashah Carson, a 70-year-old Afro-Indigenous cultural leader and musician, is a pioneering force in preserving the musical traditions of the African Diaspora while uplifting immigrant and BIPOC artists in Austin, Texas, and beyond. Known as the "Godfather of International Music" in Austin, Rashah has spent over three decades blending music, cultural activism, and social justice to combat the systemic forces of gentrification, displacement, and cultural erasure.
As the founder and director of Cosmic Intuition Productions, Rashah has curated and produced transformative events like the 100 Musician Improvisational Night and the Peace-N-Rhythm Festival, which ran for 15 years and earned a Proclamation from Austin’s Mayor Kirk Watson in 1998 for its cultural impact. His flagship program, the Concerts for Human Harmony, provides a vital platform for immigrant and BIPOC artists to share their stories and sustain their careers. Rashah has collaborated with globally celebrated artists such as Marshall Allen and the Sun Ra Arkestra, George Clinton, and Oliver Rajamani, creating events that are as much about cultural preservation as they are about artistic excellence.
Rashah’s leadership is grounded in his lived experience as an artist and advocate. From ensuring equitable compensation for immigrant artists like Abraham Mellish and Antonio Dionisio to mentoring young performers in underserved communities, Rashah’s work reflects his unwavering commitment to equity and cultural inclusivity. Despite the challenges of skyrocketing housing costs and systemic barriers, Rashah’s vision continues to center marginalized voices, ensuring they remain a vibrant and integral part of Austin’s cultural landscape.
Through Cosmic Intuition Productions, Rashah Carson has built a legacy of resilience, creativity, and community, transforming music into a powerful vehicle for change. His work celebrates the artists who have shaped Austin’s cultural identity and champions the next generation of creators, ensuring their stories and contributions endure for decades to come.
