Karelys Rodríguez is a Puerto Rican immigrant, filmmaker, and storyteller who has spent over 12 years in the film and digital content industry, using her platform to highlight the stories of marginalized communities. With a deep commitment to cultural preservation, Karelys weaves narratives that shine a light on the human experiences of immigrants, women, and people of color—experiences that are often overlooked or ignored by mainstream media.
As a producer, Karelys has overseen the production of over 100 videos and 200 community-driven events. These projects use film and media as powerful tools for social change, amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups, particularly those affected by housing insecurity and displacement. Since 2017, she has worked closely with Fisterra Projects to develop initiatives that engage the community and spark conversations around the pressing issues facing marginalized groups in Austin. Her collaborations have fostered meaningful dialogue on immigrant inclusion, cultural preservation, and community resilience.
Karelys is the lead producer of The Midnight Song, a feature film within her Visual Alchemy initiative. In this role, she oversees all creative and logistical aspects of the film, ensuring that it authentically portrays the stories of displaced artists and immigrants. For Karelys, this project is deeply personal, as she has faced the struggles of housing insecurity and displacement herself. The film is a reflection of her dedication to honoring the contributions of displaced communities, and she continues to use her storytelling skills to empower marginalized artists and create lasting social impact. Through The Midnight Song and her work with Fisterra Projects, Karelys strives to build solidarity and inspire change within communities facing cultural erasure.
