ATX Social Club – Behind the Scenes

ATX Social Club is an Austin-based digital performance platform founded in 2019 to reimagine how artists develop, document, & share their work. Led by Jameyel “J. Dash” Johnson, the platform centers genre-bending performance, high-quality production, & artist-first access beyond traditional touring models.

This behind-the-scenes work sample highlights the production of Artists You Should Know, a live digital variety series developed by ATX Social Club that merges performance, artist interviews, & real-time jam sessions. The sample includes rehearsal footage, multi-camera production, & artist conversations, offering a clear view into the collaborative process that drives the platform. Designed to dissolve barriers between artists & audiences, ATX Social Club creates space for emerging musicians, particularly BIPOC, LGBTQ+, & underrepresented voices, to connect, experiment, & grow sustainable careers.

As part of ATX Social Club’s creative ecosystem, founder & featured artist Mama Duke appears within the platform’s programming, reflecting its practice of artist-led storytelling. Through ATX Social Club, her work has reached national visibility, including recent recognition through America’s Got Talent, demonstrating how the platform amplifies local Austin artists onto broader stages.

The sample also references a live studio performance recorded at KUTX 98.9 FM, where ATX Social Club artists presented new material in an intimate broadcast setting. That session, featuring selections from You Can Open Your Eyes Now released January 30, 2025 via Triple Whammy Records, exemplifies the platform’s commitment to pairing live performance with thoughtful digital documentation.

Together, these materials demonstrate how ATX Social Club functions as both a production engine & a cultural connector, combining high-caliber media, artist development, & access-centered design to support independent musicians in Austin & beyond.

Commitment to Inclusive Music

ASL Interpretation at ACL & SXSW

Accessibility is a core practice of ATX Social Club, led by Jameyel “J. Dash” Johnson, whose production approach centers participation across language, hearing ability, & access needs. Under his leadership, accessibility is designed at the planning & production stage, shaping staging, sightlines, camera placement, & digital delivery rather than being added after the fact.

Within ATX Social Club’s creative ecosystem, collaborating artists contribute to this access-first model. Performances produced through the platform have included professional ASL interpretation at major Austin stages such as Austin City Limits & SXSW, allowing Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing audiences to experience the full musical, rhythmic, & lyrical dimensions of the work in real time.

ATX Social Club also implements Spanish & English closed captioning across music videos, livestreams, & online performances, expanding access for bilingual audiences & individuals with hearing impairments. These practices reflect the platform’s commitment to multilingual participation & inclusive design in both live & digital contexts.

As a collaborating artist within ATX Social Club programming, Mama Duke appears in work presented with ASL interpretation & Spanish-language captions. This video sample documents those practices in action, demonstrating how ATX Social Club, under Jameyel “J. Dash” Johnson’s leadership, builds equitable, multilingual, & fully accessible music experiences through collaborative production.
